About the event

Join artist Kien Situ and Passage Gallery co-director Marco Rinaldi as they unpack the artist’s exhibition ‘TECTONIC’ currently showing at Passage.

For Lunar New Year, the artist has placed a singular slab of Chinese mo ink and gypsum plaster within the gallery. The form of the slab is inspired by a real section of the moon titled Umbilicus lunaris (The Navel of the Moon).

Reflecting on his Sinospheric background (Chinese/Vietnamese diaspora), the artist is exploring the position of Asian-Australian and immigrant identity in Australia. Situ creates architectural encounters and atmospheres reflective of this contemporary state of tension and emerging hybridity.

This talk is followed by a workshop led by Kien Situ called 'I-Ching Drawing Ink from Stone'.

Please RSVP for Shadow Tectonics here. And please book your place for the workshop here: I-Ching: Drawing ink from stone.

ARTIST BIO

Kien Situ is a multidisciplinary Asian-Australian artist working across architecture, sculpture, film and installation. His practice deals with ruin, distance and time and it exists to challenge, deconstruct and meditate on notions of space, heritage and identity as the ‘other’ in society.
